Background
The Smoke-A-Licious BBQ team was created to provide a cooking outlet for my friends and I and a place where I could run my smokers without annoying my wife and neighbors. I have always wanted to have a BBQ team but figured I would have to wait until I retired and had time. But then FoodTV ran all those shows during summer and I had to enter a contest. Lucky for me there was one coming up here in my home town and so I called the organizer, got some great advice, rallied friends and family...and entered our first contest.. We did pretty well. We came in 5th in Brisket, got a ribbon and came in 8th overall against some seasoned and darn good cookers. So we were quite pleased and bit by the Competition BBQ bug. The team has a regular set of friends the show up to every competition to cook and take a shot at getting a trophy. Plus, we always invite some extra friends, especially when we travel out of town, to cook with us and learn/teach a bit. Makes the whole thing fun and ensures that the 70 pounds of meat we cook is eaten and not carried home. First the rigs
