My wife and I made this for dinner last nice. She is usually in charge of the rice cooker having been taught by our good friend Doug (and the one who gave us the Japanese rice cooker) how to properly measure the liquid, which rice you rinse and which you don't, how to use smell to tell how far along the rice is etc. Me, I got to marinate the meat and make the beans. The beans were a hit (as was the rice) so I thought I would share them with you.
1 Can black beans (don't rinse them)
1 medium Bel…

Ok, I'll have to get the recipe written up for this, But lets just say the classic combo of rosemary and lemon from the spice rub went very well with the crusted pork chops stuffed with crab and shrimp.

On Sunday I made the perfect grilled cheese. There was no bread involved, no butter or mayonnaise either. Yet, the outside was brown, crisp and toasted while the inside was a delicious blend of saltiness and melted cheese goodness!
Stop for a second and think of the last campfire-roasted marshmallow you ate and you’ll have an idea of what I cooked on Sunday, a day spent with family and testing recipes for the…

I found some grass fed tri tip at Henry's the other day. Going to have to make sure I use that at the Dreamwellness class. Hit it with some Rub Co. Santa Maria rub, a little hickory and oak, then slice and enjoy. Wow, I'm making myself hungry and I haven't even finished my morning coffee.
This stuff was only $4.99 a pound. You can order it online from other places too, cost you more and you have to pay shipping. But, it is an option if you can't find it at your local butcher…

So on went some baby backs, spare ribs and beef ribs with what was left of The Rub Co Original blend. In went some applewood and 5 ho…

Wow..it was great and thanks to everyone who helped support my last minute efforts to BBQ for the troops. I ended up cooking 10 briskets, was up 1/2 the night making sure it went well and then headed up to Pendleton to drop them off around 10Am. The camp up there is nothing like what it looks like from the freeway. I got there and drove a bit until I found the spot, asked a few Marines for directions - man these guys are polite - if all our young men and women were this cordial and disciplined w…

According to the post Sweet Heat BBQ Sauce is a world famous Red Zinfandel Dipping Sauce made from the finest wine Sonoma Valley has to offer. I just had to try this new BBQ sauce and check out the BBQ sauce recipe Sweet Heat uses. You know what they say about BBQ, its a balance of sweet and heat. So I got some of…

There are 700 Marines coming back from deployment who are not only looking forward to seeing their loved ones this holiday season but also to eating some BBQ and knowing they are home.
I will be helping cook for them at Camp Pendleton but need to offset costs...
So, dig deep and every little bit helps - I am in for $20 giving up
lattes for a few days (the headaches will hurt but I think the troops
felt worse during their deployment)

Did you know your favorite BBQ pitmaster is also a student of the martial arts!
Yes, I am a student of the art of Soo Bahk Do a Korean Martial Art, which finds its origin in Korea during the Silla Dynasty about 618 – 935 AD. I am testing this weekend for my green belt (wish me luck and balance) but that's not why I mention BBQ and Karate together. The reason I mention it is b
